Chapter 3

Lana squealed as they crashed onto her bed. Gronk rolled on top of her, dragging his lips and teeth across her neck and breasts. She gasped at the sensation, reveling in the heat and weight of him. She wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders and arched her back into his chest.

“Why didn’t you take me to your room?”

“Fire here,” he grunted. Her mouth twisted in amusement; she sensed that he thought she was being too chatty.

“I never thanked you for the fireplace. It was very kind of you.”

He dragged his mouth away from her skin just long enough to shoot her a look. “Gronk take care Lana.”

Her heart throbbed right along with her clit at his words. He’d said the words before, but she’d interpreted them as mere assurance that he wouldn’t eat her. Now, she realized he intended to be her sole provider and protector.

Lana had been taking care of herself for over thirty years, even before the monster apocalypse. The apocalypse had been overall less traumatic for her than most people, really. She’d had no one to lose, no one to miss. It had been a really convenient way to break up with her boyfriend at the time, actually.

The thought of being a monster’s trophy wife made her uncomfortable. She’d never been anyone’s trophy wife, though she had been both breadwinner and live-in maid for a few human men pre-apocalypse.

So why did she take issue with the roles being reversed for the first time in her life? What did she have to prove? She didn’t know anyone anymore. The only one she knew was Gronk, and she didn’t need to prove anything to him. He made her feel so damn pretty and valued just as she was, just for existing.

It was possible that he only wanted her for her body, but that was fine, considering that it was possible that she only wanted him because he was big and strong enough to toss her around like a rag doll.

“Hey Gronk,” she murmured. Her mouth was buried in his thick hair as he sucked and nibbled on her neck. He ignored her. “Gronk,” she said, louder this time. “I need to ask you a question.”

He lifted his head, his dark eyes watching her impatiently.

“Can you get me pregnant?”

“Preg…” His brow furrowed. What a time for the language barrier to kick in.

“A baby. If we have sex- if you put your penis in me-” she felt ridiculous- “Will a baby grow inside me?”

He stared at her for a moment before his eyes widened with sudden understanding. His throat bobbed, and he lifted up to rest on his forearms. His dark gaze swept down her body and back up again. He nodded slowly, meaningfully, and her jaw dropped.

“What? How do you know that?” His eyes darted away from her. He pinched his lower lip between his teeth.

She grabbed his chin and forced him to look at her. “Gronk. Answer me. Do you know other human women?”

He exhaled and nodded. Lana’s heart twisted in her chest.
